| Cars are very expensive in
Kenya so if you want something nice, then expect to pay a
lot for something that is not very new.
Most cars in Kenya are imported from Japan after about 6
years so even if they are newly registered they are often 6
years old.
Example Prices
A 10 year old Toyota Rav 4 - KSH 800,000 -
KSH 1,000,000
Land Rover Discovery 2003 - KSH, 1,85million
Toyota Prado (at least 15 years old) - KSH850,000

Where to
buy
The above magazine has a lot of cars and
even some links to some car lots. Buying a car is similar to
anywhere else. If you are not mechanically minded then if
you can get someone who knows a good local mechanic they
will often look over potential cars for you at a minimal
price. Prices are rarely displayed and always negotiable.
What to buy
Obviously this is very much down to personal choice and many
people will tell you not to buy lots of different cars for
different reasons. However saying this remember that Kenya
is a developing country so sometimes parts are hard to come
by. Generally Toyotas are regarded to be very reliable and
easy to find parts for. There slogan is 'The car in front is
always a Toyota' and generally this is true! Again a
mechanic can inform you of what cars are good to buy. |
